Ajoite

Ajoite is highly prized by mineral collectors for it's intense blue/green coloring and also for it's metaphysical properties. Melody chose to include a photo of Ajoite on the back cover of her book "Love is in the Earth". In fact the crystal in that photograph belonged then, and still does, to an acquaintance of mine. I have had the privilege of handling it and it is the most exquisite stone.

Ajoite was first found identified at Ajo in Arizona where it was discovered by the Papago Indians and highly valued as a bringer of purity and peace. Up until the early 1960's it was thought to be the only occurrence of this mineral. In fact it had been found, but not correctly identified,  in 1947 at Messina (now called Musina) in the far North of South Africa. Only when a second pocket was discovered in 1960 was it correctly identified. The last discovery was in 1991 at the Messina mine in excess of 4000 foot below the surface. Since then the mine has been closed due to the very dangerous conditions. It is highly unlikely that the mine will ever be opened again. As a result of this the Ajoite crystals, which are much prized by mineral collectors, are virtually impossible to obtain. The pieces you see below are pedigree Messina.

Metaphysical Properties Of Ajoite

This is a stone that produces a sense of peace which harmonizes the emotional body. Ajoite will assist in release of sorrow, anger and fear. It is wonderful if you seek to heal old wounds or find compassion and it assists in connection to Inner self, Higher Self and All That Is. It helps open one up the boundless potential that exists in each one of us.

It is a very sweet stone to use when working with the throat and heart chakras and in meditation and for all levels of healing.

Even though our small stock of ajoite in the white quartz finally ran out we do have one last offering for the Messina mine a truly impressive crystal formation. This is the first Ajoite included crystal ever on metastones, just to give you an idea of how rare it has become over the years.

Large Messina Crystal with Ajoite inclusions

This is a very unusual crystal from an extremely rare location. The messina mine has been closed for years now and I have not seen a natural crystal from that location on sale for years and years. A few rough pieces of quartz with ajoite inclusions have been polished up to display them in crystal shape. A few international dealers still have a few crystals from the original find as well but these usually range into the thousands of dollars.
The Crystal is comprised of three main features the elestial grey blue front, the self healed quartz back and the ringed base with its blue and green inclusions. The front with its blue coating extends from the base of the crystal to the tip starting off with an almost coral like formation with some clearly baby blue crystals and extending into a coating of tiny Rhomboids (round crystals) all comprised of a mix of calcite and quartz.
The back is largely self healed quartz and displays some deep blue inclusions just under the quartz. The base as displayed above has a deep green and blue ring of copper and ajoite. The point itself has an open patch that displays some interesting orange inclusion and further reveals the blue inside. I am certain if this crystal was buffed and polished it would come out with the scintillating blues so synonymous with Ajoite after polishing but I could never imaging doing so to such a naturally beautiful crystal.
The energy is simply awesome and the more time spent with this crystal the more it reveals it majesty, Ajoite has a remarkable energy and this stone is immense. It's easy to understand why Melody prized Ajoite so highly when holding this piece in your hand.
Its been apart of the metastones collection for years. It simply felt time to let it go a crystal like this will doubtless be loved, used and treasured and that's as it should be.
