BRANDBERG CRYSTALS

Damaraland in North West Namibia is considered a mystical area. Characterized by a rugged desert landscape, this area is home to desert adapted elephant and black rhino. Famous for it's 200 million year old petrified forest and an abundance of ancient rock paintings and engravings, even today the Brandberg area is yielding new secrets and surprises. As recently as April this year a new order of insects was discovered here. Mantophasmatodea, resembles a mix between a stick insect and a preying mantis. This brings the total number of insect orders in the world to 30 and is the first new order discovered since 1915.

From this stark beauty rises the highest mountain range in Namibia - the Brandberg. From the western part of this granite massif comes the fantastic Brandberg quartz crystals.

This Brandberg crystal is an amazing quality. It has a purple flame is full of amethyst and smoky and has a divine harlequin base. If it was not for the clearly visible fracture in this crystal it would be a great many hundred of dollars. Although the fracture is in no danger of coming apart and adds a great optical quality to the crystal it does stop it being the flawless material coveted by collectors. As it does not detract from the aesthetics or metaphysics that could nearly be considered lucky. The color of this stone is just mind blowing, amethyst and smoky combine to approach citrine. The base which is almost milky is alive with harlequin flecks and the point has flawless clarity. The crystal is also an enhydro the large bubble seen above left does not move very much, but some movement is evident. The energy is clearly that of an enhydro laden with water and the deep vibrations of the amethyst. The concave part of the point is often referred to as a blow hole it is where a secondary bubble actually burst free during the crystals formation. The area is entirely self healed and allows one to see into the heart of the crystal. These holes or caves are thought to be excellent for seeking insight and aiding in releasing old patterns much as the bubble emerged from the crystal.
