CRYSTALS TUMBLED AND ROUGH STONES AND OTHER TREASURES
Citrine derives it's name from the French word citrine which means lemon. Citrine is, like amethyst, is quartz that has small amounts of iron included in the crystal. The amount of heat occurring during the formation of the crystal determines the color. Much of the citrine available has been irradiated to either to change the colour from amethyst to citrine or to intensify the color. Natural citrine is comparatively rare and is generally a paler color. All the citrine on this page is natural and comes from Zambia. Often the bright orange citrine available is heat treated amethyst. Natural citrine which has gained it's color in the earth is comparatively rare.

A few more of the
magnificent pineapple citrines came to light at a recent rock show, the
unusual citrines where found in Malawi and this may be among the last.
This was also definitely the pick of the litter and is a true gem. |

| Another great
Malawian pineapple citrine, this one has however lost some of the
crystals around the base those remaining display a beautiful coloration
a great contrast to the paler point. The point also has a chip, this
doesnt much detract from what remain a beautiful and unique crystal. Size: 2½ x 1¼ x 1 inches Price:$30.00 SOLD |

I came upon one more of the
wonderful Malawian citrines
today, the color is just unbelievable for natural citrine. The formation
is lovely too a large dark point surrounded by a group of smaller
crystals. This one has rather a lot of peripheral damage though. They
are so unusual it doesn't stop it being a beautiful stone though. |
