RHODOCHROSITE
South of the Kalahari Desert on the seemingly endless, hot and dust plains of the Northern Cape in South Africa is the Kalahari Manganese Field. Estimated to contain 14 billion tons of manganese this not only represents great economic wealth but also offers rich pickings to the mineral collector. One hundred and thirty-five minerals have been identified there since commencement of mining in the 1940s. Some of the most spectacular, world class, Rhodochrosite comes from the N'Chwaning II Mine near Kuruman and it has justifiably become a collectors favorite. The pieces you see here are from are from this location.

| A lovely gemmy cluster of scalenohedral Rhodochrosite crystals on
the matrix a very attractive color so distinctive to the N'Chwaning II Mine
in Kuruman South Africa. This cluster has a lovely bright color some
nearly raspberry others are nearly a strawberry. The Galena matrix also
boasts some crystals. Some of the crystals have some damage and
specifically those of the out side, the centre crystals are all in great

one incredibly bright colboltian dolomite it nearly shines all on its own.
The delicate crystals have some damage around the edges but are largely
perfect in the middle. The matrix also has some flechs of what I assume to
be malachite. The color of these specimens is just gorgeous and they seldom
